Austell was incorporated in 1885 and named for General Alfred Austell, who worked to bring major railroads to the South and founded the Atlanta National Bank. The Georgia Pacific Railway made the town a depot and the dividing point for its Birmingham and Chattanooga lines.
Today Austell sits on the southern edge of Cobb County, with a small piece in Douglas County. US-78 runs through town, about 15 miles from downtown Atlanta.
Two Austell Landmarks Locals Know
Downtown Austell and Broad Street
Downtown Austell grew up along Broad Street, right beside the railroad that put the town on the map. The former Ritz Theatre building still stands at 2734 Broad Street, a reminder of the days when locals came downtown for a movie.
Today Broad Street is home to local shops, restaurants and a brewery. Downtown spots like these win new customers when they show up first on the map, and that starts with a complete Google Business Profile.
The Threadmill Complex
Just north of downtown, the Coats and Clark Threadmill sits on a hill above Clarkdale, a mill village the Clark Thread Company built in 1932. It was one of the last planned communities in Georgia, with 138 homes on curving, tree-lined streets below the mill.
Thread making ended in 1983, and the mill and village were added to the National Register of Historic Places. Since 2001 the restored mill has housed city, county and state offices plus private businesses. Local history like this makes strong local content, which is what our content marketing is built on.
What Austell Is Known For
Austell is known for Sweetwater Creek, which winds north and east of downtown, and for its railroad roots. Six Flags Over Georgia, just to the southeast in Mableton, still carries an Austell mailing address.
It is also a family town. In 2020, about 41 percent of Austell households had children under 18.
Why Local SEO Matters for Austell, GA Businesses
When Sweetwater Creek rises
In September 2009, Sweetwater Creek hit 31,500 cubic feet per second. That was about 300 times its normal flow and the highest in more than 108 years of records, and the Austell area took heavy damage.
The city now shares a USGS flood map and a creek webcam at Legion Park. For drainage, plumbing and water damage pros, being the first name on Google Maps when the creek rises is what wins the call. Our local SEO service helps you get there before the rain starts.
An Austell address doesn't always mean Austell
Austell mailing addresses reach well past the city limits into unincorporated south Cobb, and even into the new city of Mableton. Six Flags is the best-known example.
Google pays attention to those boundaries. We line up your address, service areas and citations so you show up for the Austell searches that matter to your business.
Busy families, quick decisions
With so many households raising kids, Austell customers often search and book in the short gaps between school runs and work. If nobody answers, they call the next business on the list.
Missed call auto text back and online appointment scheduling make it easy for them to choose you.
